74 Reasons to Get Excited for the 74th NBA Season: Reason 31

Reason 31: Kevin Love becoming a house-hold name

Mike Love is a singer in a pretty well known band, The Beach Boys. Well, his nephew Kevin, is becoming a pretty well known basketball player in the NBA. Love was a sought-after recruit playing high school basketball in Oregon. He decided to play at UCLA, which brought fans of the University of Oregon to trash talk and even send death threats Love’s way. Why would anyone do this to someone? The answer is because they believed Love was going to be an outstanding player and wanted him on their team. Well, they were right in assuming that.

Love was selected fifth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2008 NBA Draft after one year at UCLA. He was later traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for O.J. Mayo and some additional players. Love is a rebounding machine. He is one of the top rebounders in the League, and he holds the longest streak for consecutive games recording double figures in points and rebounds since the NBA came into existence after merging with the ABA. And it started early. Love averaged a double-double in his rookie season, and he was selected to the All-Star team last year. Love is the face of the Timberwolves franchise. And now his name, soon will be remembered too.
