74 Reasons to Get Excited for the 74th NBA Season: Reason 63

Reason #63: How will the Hornets do without David West?

David West lead the team last year with a total of 1322 points during the regular season. His decision to opt-out of his contract and test the market has left the Hornets with some options to deal with in the future. West led the Hornets with his 18.9 points per game, with most of his looks coming from the assist wizard that is Chris Paul.  On the brighter side, the Hornets did give up the streaky scorer Marcus Thornton to the Kings in exchange for Carl Landry. The undersized forward then went on to outperform in the paint for the Hornets during the post season, averaging 15.8 points and five boards per game. The Hornets appear to be safe with the acquisition of their new workhorse power forward that doesn’t just sit outside the box to shoot jumpers. New Orleans has plenty of shooters to take those shots and will spice things up if they do intend on trading Trevor Ariza.
